Douglas (Doug) M. Hershman is a director at Bayard. Doug currently serves as chair of the firm's executive and marketing committees. Doug has been at Bayard since 1999.

Doug leads the firm’s diverse real estate practice, representing clients engaged in all aspects of the real estate industry throughout Delaware and its surrounding states. His practice has included representations of both buyers and sellers of commercial and residential properties, as well as borrowers in financing transactions. Doug also represents lenders making commercial real estate loans. He handles transactions involving both commercial and residential properties, including retail shopping centers, office buildings and apartment complexes. He is a licensed issuing agent for Transnation Title Insurance Company, Lawyers Title Insurance Company, Stewart Title Guaranty Company and Ticor Title Insurance Company. Doug’s knowledge of real estate and business transactions has proven to be a critical component to the success of the firm.

As a member of the Delaware State Bar Association’s Real and Personal Property Section, Doug previously served three terms as Chairman of the Section and many years as a member of its Executive Committee.

Doug is actively involved in the Home Builders Association of Delaware and currently serves on its Board of Directors and as Secretary of the Association. He recently accepted the President’s Distinguished Service Award recognizing Bayard as a source of continuous outstanding service to the Association. Doug is a past recipient of the Associate Member of the Year award from the Association. In 2007, Doug was appointed to the Board of the Wilmington Economic Development Corporation (WEDCO). He recently was appointed to the Board of Directors for the Better Business Bureau of Delaware.

He has been recognized as a leading attorney in the field of real estate by both Chambers USA in 2006 and 2007 and Delaware Super Lawyers in 2007. Additionally, Doug was listed among Lawdragon 3000 Leading Lawyers in America for 2006 and was a finalist for Lawdragon’s 500 Leading Lawyers in America for 2007. He is Secretary and a member of the Board of Governors of the University & Whist Club of Wilmington, Delaware and serves as a volunteer arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau’s binding arbitration program for real estate disputes.
